UTM Link Builder

A UTM link builder adds campaign parameters to a link so your analytics tool can show where visits came from. Enter your page URL, source, medium and campaign, and this free tool builds the link, keeps any existing parameters and warns about spaces and capital letters. A bulk mode builds many links at once.

What is a UTM link builder and when should you use it?

UTM parameters are labels added to the end of a link. When someone clicks the link, Google Analytics reads the labels and shows the visit under your campaign. They don't change the page itself. Clean them out of shared lists with the Tracking Parameter Remover, and read any link's parameters with the URL Parser.

How do you use it?

  1. Enter the page URL.
  2. Fill in source, medium and campaign.
  3. Add the optional fields you need.
  4. Press Build and copy the link.

Result interpretation & practical applications

When evaluating the output of the UTM link builder, review the parsed metrics against your specific site architecture. Outputs are formatted for direct implementation into your HTML source, web server configuration, or Google Search Console audit files.

Always inspect generated values for contextual nuance. Automated tools highlight structural patterns, but manual verification confirms that technical directives align with your overarching SEO strategy.

Technical rules and limitations

  • Always use utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign.
  • Values are case sensitive: utm_source=google is different from utm_source=Google, so keep a strict naming convention.
  • Parameters can be added in any order.
  • If you set one UTM parameter, set all the relevant ones.

These rules come from Google Analytics' help page on collecting campaign data with custom URLs.

Common mistakes and troubleshooting

  • Mixing Email and email as sources.
  • Leaving spaces in values.
  • Adding UTM links to your own internal pages.
